VENUES
Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center
Ahmed Adnan Saygun Center consists of 3 main sections: City Square, Culture Platform and Art Center. The center features a 243-seat hall in addition to the main hall, and exhibition spaces spread across three floors connected by bridges. The architect Tevfik Tozkoparan, author of the project, has transformed what was once a trolleybus garage and maintenance workshop, now only a memory, into a center for artistic activities.
AASSM stands out with its concert hall implemented with a meticulous acoustic project, as well as its spacious galleries that will host plastic arts and contemporary art. The concert hall, which is the jewel of AASSM, has emerged as a truly eye-catching concert hall from the design stage to its implementation. Many fine details have been carefully implemented, including the acoustic project undertaken by the experienced British firm ARUP, and the structure of the platform on which the orchestra will be positioned, designed according to the instruments to be played on it.
Library of Celsius
Rising majestically among the ancient ruins of Ephesus, the Library of Celsius stands as one of the most breathtaking monuments of the ancient world, carrying the wisdom and grandeur of a civilization long past into the present day. Built in the 2nd century AD, this remarkable façade has endured millennia to remain one of humanity’s most treasured architectural legacies. Once a year, before this timeless monument, the magic of the International İzmir Festival unfolds — virtuosos and artists from across the globe take the stage illuminated by ancient stone, delivering performances that linger in memory long after the final note fades. The Library’s grand columns and intricately carved reliefs become far more than a backdrop; they transform into a living stage where art and history intertwine in perfect harmony. This extraordinary atmosphere, where the wisdom of the past meets the voices of the future, makes the İzmir Festival one of the most awe-inspiring open-air cultural experiences in the world.
İzmir Historic Agora
Rising from the heart of İzmir, the Historic Agora awakens once a year to host one of Turkey’s most distinguished cultural events: the International İzmir Festival. Beneath the majestic columns of the Roman era and in the presence of ancient stones that have silently witnessed centuries of history, artists from around the world take the stage as music, dance, and theater breathe new life into this timeless venue. The historic fabric of the Agora is not merely a backdrop — it is an integral part of the festival itself, where every note and every applause resonates with thousands of years of heritage. This unique encounter between past and future, between the ancient and the modern, makes the İzmir Festival one of the most extraordinary cultural experiences in the world.
Çeşme Castle
Standing as a timeless sentinel along the shores of the Aegean, Çeşme Castle has watched over the İzmir gulf for centuries with quiet dignity. Originally built by the Genoese and later reinforced during the Ottoman era, this storied fortress is steeped in the winds of the sea and the echoes of history. Once a year, beneath its ancient walls, the spirit of the International İzmir Festival comes alive — as music drifts across the Aegean, artists and audiences alike find themselves lost in the depths of time. Çeşme Castle offers a natural stage that perfectly mirrors the soul of the festival; the centuries worn into its stones lend the performances a rare depth, while the shimmering blue of the sea wraps the entire evening in an atmosphere unlike any other. This singular meeting of sea, history, and art makes the İzmir Festival one of the most unforgettable cultural moments the Aegean has ever witnessed.
