MÜZİKSEV İKSEV MUSIC MUSEUM

Izmir Culture, Arts and Education Foundation (IKSEV) has brought to life the MÜZİKSEV project, which it prepared to share its 32 years of experience with the city’s residents and to offer a lasting gift to the people of Izmir who brought it into existence, with the financial support of Izmir Development Agency (IZKA).

MÜZİKSEV‘s mission is to:

  • Preserve and maintain all assets in its collection and present them to the public as tools for education, training, entertainment and pleasure culture;
  • Become an important center for scientific research conducted within its field;
  • Become a focus of interest for young generations thanks to the technology it possesses and thus serve as a bridge between history and the future;
  • Become one of the city’s important cultural institutions and develop relationships with other cultural institutions to this end;
  • Undertake the role of a center that makes important contributions to cultural tourism so that Izmir is once again recognized as a city of culture, arts and tourism.

In this context: The purpose of MÜZİKSEV’s establishment is to become a center that will enable comprehensive research in the field of music and where work can be done especially for the education of young people, by IKSEV, which has continuously contributed to the city’s cultural and artistic life since its foundation.

MÜZİKSEV‘s primary goal is to reflect the rich musical past of our country and our city. At MÜZİKSEV, where authentic Turkish instruments will be exhibited, visitors will be able to listen to the sounds of these instruments through state-of-the-art technological devices, from performances by their best interpreters.

In addition to its permanent collection of traditional Turkish instruments, MÜZİKSEV will also house a library where very valuable musical works, records, cassettes and CDs, valuable musical scores belonging to contemporary Turkish composers, particularly works submitted to the Dr. Nejat Eczacıbaşı National Composition Competition, and music books can be preserved, and which can be utilized by young people studying music, researchers, musicologists and city residents interested in music. Thus, visitors will be able to benefit from all kinds of recordings in the sound archive, from stone records to festival concerts, from performances by renowned artists to recordings of important congresses and seminars, especially the Culture Congresses.

While pursuing these goals, MÜZİKSEV has also included the preservation of the city’s historical fabric among its missions, and in 2011 brought back to life an “Alsancak House,” one of the symbols of Izmir’s magnificent urban cultural past, as an important cultural institution.
