EFFE/Turkey > FAQs
What’s a festival according to EFFE?
A festival focuses on arts and culture; its programme is an integrated package; it takes place in a specific place and at a specific time. This is a loose definition and all festivals that think they represent the criteria are welcome to apply!
Can only specific kinds of festivals apply? Do attendance figures matter?
No. All genres in the cultural field can apply. The festivals will be assessed on their artistic commitment, involvement in their local communities and a European and global outlook.
Is there an application fee?
The application fee contributes to administrative costs and must be paid by credit or debit card when submitting the application.
Is the EFFE Festival Label an official certificate?
Festivals awarded the EFFE Festival Label are recognised as fulfilling the values of the European Commission’s Pilot Project European Platform for Festivals in the field of culture. EFFE and the EU will work towards an official European recognition.
Is there a limit per country on festivals that can receive the label?
No, all festivals that fulfil the criteria will be included. The festivals are assessed by independent experts, and the results will reflect EFFE’s ambition to celebrate Europe’s diversity.
Which countries can take part?
The festivals must take place in one of the 28 EU Member States. Further festivals from non-EU countries may apply if their country is represented by a festival hub. More countries may be eligible for labels in the future.
What languages can be used in the application form?
English.
If a festival receives the festival label in 2015, does it have to re-apply every year?
Yes.
