Nedim Atilla
Born in Dikili, Izmir in 1958, Nedim Atilla is the grandson of immigrant families of Cretan and Lesbos origin. He studied communication at Ege Üniversity, then completed two years of an art history-historical geography degree and a two-year Masters degree in sociology of communication. Continuing his journalism career, - started during his student years - he has held various positions in Günaydın, Sabah,
Yeni Asır, Akşam newspapers and Ege TV between 1979 and 2015. He currently writes for OdaTV, EgedeSonsöz and İzmirlife Magazine.
Following his first book published in 1995, he has published 35 books on the
historical and cultural heritage of our country and region to date. Of these, his book ‘İzmir Mutfağı from History to the Present’ has been translated into Greek, with ‘Parşömen’ and ‘Sağlık Yurdu Batı Anadolu’ also translated
into English. He has been an active member of Rotary International for 25 years, serving as President in 2021-22.
11 of Atilla's books are on gastronomic culture and he is one of the founding leaders of the Slow Food movement in Turkey, as well as president of the Izmir Bardacık Union. He is currently a Terra Madre Delegate and recipient of the Carlo Petrini Special Award. Having served as Vice President of the Turkish Kitchen Friends Association for 8 years, he currently serves as Vice President of Chain de Rettiseure Izmir.8
