BERKE ÖZAŞIK
I was born on 8th March 2002 in the Susurluk district of Balıkesir province. After completing my primary and high school education in the district where I was born, I was admitted to the Fine Arts Faculty at Marmara University to study Ceramics and Glass. One year later, I started to study Graphic Arts after managing to make an in-house lateral transfer. I am continuing to study in the same department and gain professional experience with various freelance jobs.
JAZZ EXHIBITION THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD
Music, especially jazz music, is a highly essential part of Visual Arts Workshops at the Narlidere Science and Art Centre. While painting, sketching, designing manga characters, pixel-art and collage, music always fills the studio, and sometimes this music is accompanied by dance :)
While listening to online radio stations such as Acik Radyo, KEXP and Jazz London Radio during a workshop, jazz music establishes a permanent place in the students’ ears, - even if they can’t stop themselves from saying “jazz again?!” from time to time.
With workshop activities such as “Autumn Leaves” and “Jazz Poster Design”, jazz music is transformed into visual art works which go beyond the music listened to in the classroom.
The “31st Izmir European Jazz Festival” posters were made as a workshop activity by students aged 8 to 13 from the Narlidere Science and Art Centre. They await you at the exhibition which is entitled “Jazz through the Eyes of a Child”.
